The second annual Women in Design Exhibition took place on March 6th, 2021 in celebration of International Women’s Day. Due to the limitations of the COVID-19 lockdown, WOAS decided to host the exhibition over their Instagram platform instead of hosting an in-person event. Before the exhibition was launched a virtual Zoom event was hosted to have a discussion with prominent women architects. This event hosted Heather Dubbledam, Simona Sund, Carolyn Moss, and Amber Salach to speak about their experience in architecture, their favourite projects, and to participate in an interesting discussion including topics such as mentorship, work-life balance, and confidence in the workplace.

In the closing remarks of the panel discussion, the 2021 Women in Design Exhibition was officially launched which kicked off a week’s worth of Instagram content including the exhibition of the work of 10 Women in Design. Powerful quotes were shared to empower and inspire women, along with other resources and information intended to inform and uplift.

After the success of the previous exhibition and the enthusiasm of our Instagram followers, another year of the exhibition seemed unquestionable! The opening event for the exhibition including a panel discussion was amazing to hear the experiences of women in the architecture industry and have them share their knowledge with students, other women in the industry, and men to better understand their struggles, strengths and experiences.

With another successful year of celebrating International Women’s Day and all the women in the design community, we look forward to what 2022 will bring!
