BEA[T] National Mix

Amongst the challenges and upheavals of Covid-19 and various lockdown measures, organizations like BEA have been encouraged to think differently on ways members can come together to connect, inspire and engage in meaningful conversation and mentorship opportunities. On June 3, 2021, BEA members were invited to participate in the first-ever virtual National Mix hosted by BEAT!

Comprised of special guests from six of BEA's national chapters, this was an opportunity for BEA members to come together and engage in a series of meaningful and inspired conversations across Canada. The ultimate goals of the event were to further highlight regional BEA initiatives, provide informal mentorship, and cultivate a virtual platform for networking.

The evening featured six panelists who met in the virtual "main room" for a brief event introduction and event overview. Panelists included: Shallyn Murray, BEAA PEI, Architect, NINEYARDS, Anna Sampson, BEAA NS, Architect, IAH, Heather Dubbeldam, BEA Toronto, Architect, Dubbledam Architecture + Design, Liz Wreford, BEA Prairies, Principal Landscape Architect, Public City, Lindsay Andreas, BEA Calgary, Associate Architect, Sturgess Architecture, and Ana Maria Llanos, BEA Vancouver, Principal, Diamond Schmitt Architects.

Following this, panelists were paired together with a smaller audience to discuss regional initiatives, professional trajectories and field questions from the audience. BEA members swapped strategies, tips, and event ideas while also discussing the challenges and positive outcomes of the various virtual events hosted throughout the pandemic. All guests and attendees met back in the main room for concluding remarks and questions. The night left members encouraged and inspired and many vocalized the need for the National Mixer to become an annual occasion for the years to come!
