Women in Design Exhibition 2020

The first Women in Design Event took place on March 10th, 2020 and was organized very shortly after the creation of the Women of Architecture Sudbury (WOAS), the original women in design group in Sudbury before a transition to BEA[North]. The original intention of WOAS was to champion the work of Women in Design and provide opportunities for networking and mentorship. In harmony with these ideas, the exhibit was created to display the work of women from the Sudbury design community. There were submissions from undergrad and master’s students from the McEwen School of Architecture, students from College Boreal, architects and architectural interns from local firms, and professors from the McEwen School of Architecture. The variety of work was displayed in the atrium of the McEwen School of Architecture to be viewed for the month of March. The opening event took place on International Women’s Day as a celebration of all the Women in the Sudbury design community. The event acted as a place for open conversation and networking and was successful in the goal of connecting Women in Design through the event.

Upon reflection of the exhibition and the amazing opening event that brought a variety of people together while championing the work of Women in Design, the WOAS group decided to continue the Women in Design Exhibition in the following years in celebration of International Women’s Day.
